Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Holy Cross was started in 2007 by Rosemary Johns. Volunteers from the parish have been busy knitting or crocheting shawls that can be given to people who may need a special measure of comfort. Its not just the warmth of the shawl that is important, it is also the warmth of the shawl makers and distributors who pray as they craft and gather the shawls.

The shawls could warm someone coping with an illness or offer comfort to someone wrestling with a problem. Hundreds and hundreds of shawls have been given away.  Shawls that were blessed by Fr. Tom are available to be distributed to people in need. If you would like to take a shawl to a neighbor, loved one, or anyone in need of a prayer shawl, please contact the parish office at 920-766-3773.

Example of Prayer to say while knitting or crocheting
Dear Heavenly Father, be with the person who will wear this prayer shawl each day. Comfort and console them as you hold them in Your healing presence. May this shawl be a sign of Your love and grace. May this shawl bring warmth when they are weary. May it surround the person and cover them with love to ease the pain and suffering. O Christ, be with the doctors, nurses, technicians and all who care for the sick. May Your strong touch reach out to heal all the broken and hurting people and places in our world. We ask Your blessing on the prayer shawl and the person who will wear it. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
