Compassionate Friends Ministry

"The peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus"  Philippians 4:7

Compassionate FriendsEstablished on September 1st, 2005, Compassionate Friends of Holy Cross Parish sends out heartfelt greetings, ongoing sympathy, and prayers and support to those who mourn the loss of a loved one. After experiencing personal losses of our own and discussing various programs at parish council meetings, we realized that Holy Cross was in need of bereavement outreach. Working with Fr. Jack Mullarkey, Mary Sherman (Green Bay Diocese) and Patti DeGroot, we have been blessed to help design this program for the families of our parish.

This program first reaches out to each family when initial funeral plans are being arranged with the priest. Following the funeral, one team member "adopts" each family for the first year by:

  1. Making a personal phone call to the family.
  2. Adding the family name onto the parish Prayer Chain.
  3. Sending the family an "Area Grief Support Group" contact list.
  4. Sending inspirational cards to the family throughout the year, ending with the first anniversary date.

We need your help - Another goal of our team is to contact Holy Cross Parish members who have lost a loved one from outside of the parish. Because we don't always know of each death, we are asking for your help to make this parish outreach a success. If you know someone from our parish to whom we can send our heartfelt sympathies, please contact Terry Van Zeeland at 920-766-4229, and feel free to leave a message.

"Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Them"
After a parish member passes away, their life will be commemorated with a cross bearing their name. The crosses will be placed on the remembrance wall in Friendship Hall to remind us to keep their souls and families in our prayers. At the All Soul's Prayer Service each year, the crosses will be presented to the families.
